How can you tell the difference between Content and Full?

If you eat the way you should, by portion sizing and eating often you know your next meal is about 3 hours away. You eat just enough to satisfy that hungry feeling in your belly.  When it comes to the holidays it’s easy to skip a meal. When a meal is skipped a few things occur. Your blood sugar level is lowered which can make you lose mental focus, energy, the possibility of becoming short with people.

When you are hungry you tend to over eat the next meal. Instead of being content knowing that you will be eating 3 hours later, you over eat becoming full and have that feeling of being uncomfortable. You know you ate too much.

Others will go to the extreme of being stuffed and feel very uncomfortable. You know that feeling “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing”.  When you become over stuffed and being very uncomfortable all you want to do is nap and not move.

Here are a few helpful tips to avoid being Stuffed like a Turkey!

  1. Eat breakfast
  2. Drink water
  3. Eat you in between meal snacks 100-150 calories
  4. Do your exercises
  5. Portion size your holiday meal- take tastes (1-2 tablespoons) of everything equaling your total portion sizes for protein and carbohydrates
  6. Drink water with your meal
  7. Limit your alcohol
  8. Split a dessert

There is no reason to be in Turkey Coma after your meal. Go for a family walk and remember you can have leftovers during the week. You don’t have to eat it all at once.
